Designed for low-level flight, most less than 50 feet from the surface of the water, the Kraken, being a biplane design for the additional lift, fuel efficiency and maneuverability, is meant as a Wing In Ground Effect Vehicle. At maximum load, the F/AS-26 cannot rise above 150ft in altitude. Foregoing some of it's payload, it can operate as a ground-attack aircraft or a fighter.
It's primary goal is to support fleet operations and assault enemy naval vessels.
The Kraken is meant to be launched by being lifted by crane into the water, where it performs a waterborne takeoff. It can, however, perform takeoffs and landings from flightdecks of carriers in various sea conditions.

As a flarecraft, the Kraken can, while in Wing In Ground Effect status, hold a payload that is considerably more enormous and heavy than that of other aircraft. As a result, it is suitable for holding large anti-ship missiles, which it launches dorsally.
While low to the water, utilizing flaps to help with low-altitude lift and control as well as using it's vectored thrust capabilities, the Kraken can "walk" on water and lower a pair of probes into the water, allowing it to use Active and Passive sonar, primarily in the forward direction, to hunt for subsurface targets, which it can then kill via torpedoes. During this process, extensive use of altitude-limiting software is utilized.
The Kraken can also perform anti-submarine warfare duties while floating in the water and with assistance from ASW helos.
